I made this site to share my families experiences and adventures of living in San Mateo, CA with one car. We got rid of our second car in the pandemic and have relied on a mix of cargo bikes, Caltrain, and walking. Hopefully sharing some of these experiences can be helpful for people to better understand how to thrive in San Mateo with less dependence on a car!

Electric Cargo Bikes

As a family we have put close to 5000 miles on our electric cargo bikes since 2020. They have transformed how we get to/from school and destinations close to our home. I view them more as a car replacement for short to medium trips than a bike replacement. We definitely wouldn't be able to get by with one car without electric bike in our life.
